May 6 - 12, 2017

National School Nurse Day : May 10, 2017
International Nurses Day : May 12, 2017

National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6th and ends on May 12th, Florence Nightingale's birthday. As of 2003, National School Nurse Day is celebrated on the Wednesday within National Nurses Week (May 6-12) each year. International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world on May 12th of each year.

The theme for National Nurses Week in 2016 was Culture of Safety: It Starts With YOU.

Kathy Dempsey, RN, CSP : Her "signature story" is her transformation as an ER/trauma nurse who became the first health care worker in America to be diagnosed positive for AIDS as a result of workplace exposure. Months later, all tests returned negative. A miracle or medical error? No one is able to explain. The 3 months that Kathy lived with that traumatic diagnosis was a life-altering experience.
